SPENGA CREW Spotlight: Brittany

brittany, spenga bloomingdale crew memberIf you've been in a session with Brittany, you cannot help but smile. Her excitement and love for SPENGA overflows in all that she does. Plus, she has rockin' playlists. Read on to hear her story and follow her @brittbefitt.

Growing up, I was the awkward "tall kid" (At 5'6, I am the same height that I was in 5th grade!) The first sport I ever played was basketball, and in junior high and high school, I participated in cheerleading. My fitness journey really began after graduating from college. I wanted to make a change to feel stronger and healthier. I signed up for my first half marathon, hoping I could cross the finish line at the end of that summer. Prior to signing up, I never considered myself a "runner" or even an athlete. After finishing several races (very slowly I may add), I set my sights on accomplishing a full 26.2! Around this time, I developed the confidence to try group fitness classes. I fell in love with the challenging and supportive environment of group fitness. Working full-time in education, I am passionate about helping others. I started to think “What if I can help others achieve their goals AND make fitness fun?” I enrolled in a course through NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), and earned my Personal Training Certification. Very soon after earning this certification, I came across SPENGA. After one session, I was hooked. I've always been a strong believer in the "you vs. you" mentality, and love that SPENGA meets everyone where they are at!

My dad has been someone that's always been my WHY. Unfortunately, my dad experienced a heart attack in his early thirties. He is now healthy, and many of the factors causing his heart problems were genetic. Supporting my dad through these health ups and downs taught me the importance of living a healthy lifestyle from a young age! Additionally, for the past two years I have been fundraising for Team Ronald McDonald House Charities while training for the Chicago Marathon. I am grateful for the opportunity to help this amazing charity, and the accountability being a part of Team RMHC brings!

But, like many of us, the biggest obstacle I have faced in terms of fitness has been myself. I am my own worst critic, and it has taken a lot of time and energy to change my mindset and believe in myself! My greatest fitness triumph has been pushing myself out of my comfort zone, and hopefully inspiring others to do the same!  I love teaching SPENGA, but more importantly love the community across our studios. We are more than a workout- we are a tribe, and a family here to support one another. I think I wasn't expecting to find this in a group fitness studio, so this is definitely something that surprised me!

SPENGA is such a positive influence in helping me stay accountable and make healthy choices! I also love that SPENGA continues to motivate me to continue educating myself and become the best instructor I can be for our clients!
