Member Spotlight: Kathy
Kathy is such a joy to have as part of SPENGA Bloomingdale. She is an extremely hard worker and is constantly cheering on everyone around her. She works her butt off every time she walks into the studio. Her high sweet spot is something that constantly impresses us. We love having her at the Bloom and are thankful for her continued support in our studio and in the community.
What drew you to SPENGA?
I am so thankful that Marisol (also a member) mentioned visiting the Spenga booth at Septemberfest 2019. It was really her encouragement. After meeting everyone at the booth who was so upbeat and encouraging and really being intrigued by the balance of the workout I decided to try it out. The rest is history,
Can you describe a specific moment at SPENGA that stays with you?
I can think of two---my first day at SPENGA returning to working out after a hiatus of trying to find the right fit, dealing with tears in my back, and just not feeling it. I struggled. I felt weak and embarrassed. I had let my fitness go. I wanted to quit due to my own shame. But due to the energizing support of the group around me, I got back on the bike...and I pedaled, committing to myself.
The second is winning the first Century Challenge. Never in my wildest dreams did I think just a few weeks before the person who felt embarrassed and ashamed would make herself a priority, get back on the bike, and pedal through the challenge. I learned a lot of myself that month. It was amazing catching that spark and pushing myself to reach a goal.
What surprised you about SPENGA?
The "you do you" is real! I love the philosophy of being the best you. I continue to be amazed at what a supportive group of people work out at spenga and how everyone supports the successes of everyone around them. The environment is contagious and the people are amazing--from the members to the staff. It is like a family!
How has SPENGA impacted your life outside of the studio?
Spenga has provided a consistent constant balance in my daily life. I am able to find an hour to myself to block out all the noise. I find starting my day helps me reset and focus for whatever will need addressing.
